To celebrate the beginning of the Fractional Krugerrand the 1980 1/10 Proof Krugerrand were only sold in a set. There were only 60 sets minted on the 23 September 1980 by the Minister of Finance, Prof. Owen Horwood. They were sold in a special VIP marked green South African Mint case.
As only 60 sets were minted a 1980 set is very rare.
